Back to the laundry/spray area

I realize I am bouncing around a lot, but so has this renovation. Sometimes I get confused too. Back into the laundry/spray area with the new exterior door.

The sliding laundry basket system was already installed. What we now had to do is clean up the rest of what used to be a mud room and get it ready for paint. This involved scraping walls and windows of wallpaper, and paint, cleaning everything REALLY good, and quite a bit of up and down on ladders. As you can see from the photos, my husband was working with coffee. He doesn't work without it.

Our youngest also was pressed into service, scraping, cleaning, and pulling nails and screws out of the wall. Some of them had been there God knows how long. The house was built in the late 1980s so...

Slowly built in work spaces began to take shape. We reused some materials we had on hand (like an old kitchen cabinet we decided not to put back up in the kitchen) and random pieces of lumber from other projects. It looked rough at first, but it all came together eventually. And it was a spray area so we don't need granite counter tops and mahogany drawers anyway.

We did need a stair to step down into the spray area from the studio. You see, to raise up the floor to meet the studio that would mean moving plumbing for the washer dryer. My husband spent three decades as a plumber. He doesn't wanna do it. So, the floor stayed where it was and he built a two step stair for the walkway. The coolest part about it was the lower stair tread (the part you step on) was it was fitted with hinges and had hidden storage. We decided to put all the polishers and sanders in there along with sanding pads. That way when we need them (which isn't often) we know where they are.

So we now have the start of a spray area and a secret compartment stair. I'd say it's shaping up to be pretty cool.

Be well, y'all.
