This all started because we needed a new stove, remember? We still hadn't bought one. When we decided to redo the kitchen one of the first things we did was put the stove on the yard. It was gone. We still had our grill, our microwave, our toaster, and my husband set us up with a griddle area. He took two long shelf inserts from the kitchen cabinets, lay them across the two countertops where the stove should be, and set the griddle on top. It was functional.

Our redneck stovetop
It wasn't that we didn't want a new stove, we did, badly. Problem is you can't get one same day hardly. There was a huge sale 4th of July weekend at most of the major appliance retailers. We visited several different company stores and locations. You could go visit the stoves, but you couldn't bring one home. We even had a friend willing to bring their truck to meet us and bring it home. We finally gave up on hoping we could get one on a visit and ordered the one my husband wanted. It would be here in three weeks. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
My husband wanted a convection oven. I wasn't sure what that was. He explained it to me. It has something to do with air flow. I got kinda lost. He also wanted one with the controls on the front and not the back. His thinking was in our galley kitchen it might open up the wall a little to not have that stand on the back. And, last but not l least, he wanted a glass/flat top. I can't blame him. Those are cool. You might be wondering what I wanted and why I am not addressing my desires. It's simple... My husband is a better cook than I am. My husband also works from home. He has taken over most of the cooking duties. I decided as that was the case his desires were more important when it came to the new stove.
We are NOT allowed to store shoes in the new stove. FYI
We finally picked one out, a Samsung 6.3 cubic foot convection unit. I then found out most ovens were 5.3 cubic feet. The manufacturer took the extra inches for the inside from the bottom drawer so that was more shallow. It was perfect for us, we just were going to slide cookie pans in it anyway. He ordered it and arranged delivery. We would continue to use our redneck stove top a couple more weeks.

All snug like a bug in a rug
I happened to be off the day it was delivered. It sure was shiny. I got really tickled when the gentlemen were installing the stove. I heard one day, "Uh, sir, we have a small issue..." The left side kitchen cabinet was about 1/8" too far right. I am sure the delivery men were worried this would be a big problem. My husband walked over, looked, and said, "Oh no, no issue at all. Honey go get my screw gun." Before I realized it my husband had unscrewed the cabinet from the wall and moved it the distance it needed to go to the left. That's all that was holding the cabinet in place, two screws, removed in seconds. Until we started all this in the house I never realized how little actually holds cabinets to the wall. Of course they are mounted in wall studs but still, not much actually holds them all in reality. I am learning something new every day! The stove slid right in perfectly. The delivery men seemed to breathe a little easier as well.
My husband knows our youngest and I aren't exactly the best at mechanical operation and care of things. He made us read the manual so we would know how to operate it and clean it. As it has a glass top it must be cleaned with a special cleaner. He was disappointed the manufacturer didn't include even a small sample bottle in the box, especially since the manual said to clean it before using. Oops.
The manual said we needed to run the oven at 400° for an hour to burn off the oils that are used in shipping and storage but not to use it the first day. That evening our youngest suggested frozen pizza for dinner. Nope. Can't use the oven. We had wraps instead.
I got up the next morning and guess what was on the counter? An empty supreme frozen pizza box. Y'all, there is only one person in our house that eats supreme pizza... He happened to be awake while I was getting ready for work. I asked him about the evidence. "It was a test," he says. He was testing the functionality of the new unit. Uh-huh...
Then he got excited, "Oh my god honey, it baked it so well, right on the top, right on the bottom, just perfect!" It's the little things in life...
Okay so now we have a floor, a countertop, a sink, and a stove. What's next for us? That is up to the captain of the remodel, I will let you know when he tells me.
Be well, y'all.
The oven/stovetop unit looks terrific! I'm curious to hear how it's working now.
