Stains and Sinks

The countertops are installed. They're pretty. The butcher block has a lovely farmhouse feel to it that will coordinate with our modern farmhouse sink. Issue is we wanted to stain them dark. Darker floor, darker countertops, black and stainless appliances. It was a whole look now, apparently. We picked up a quick drying stain by Minwax (Ebony) we do not recommend. My husband barely got the stain on before it was almost too dry to wipe back off. Fortunately, we like the color so it was no harm, no foul. If we did this again we would use a different product. If you stain yours, coat with the grain.

We wanted our counters to be food safe. My husband used a sealer by paint company Createx from their Scenix line. From what I gathered from him, the Scenix are predominantly made for theme parks. This paint line is durable and sunscreen resistant. Once cured, it also made our counters food safe. My husband sealing the counters. Trust me you do NOT want to drink what is in his red solo cup.
After the counters were installed it was time to "drop in" our new sink. I say drop in because that is the term used for the kind of sink we brought home. There are apparently at least two, one drops in over the top of a counter, the other is an "undermount", which, you guessed it, mounts underneath the counter. My husband was a plumber for thirty years, he worked in residential and commercial areas. He says this is the largest residential sink he has ever installed. But... It's pretty...

My husband... For scale
He got it properly installed and in no time flat I realized it looked like we had a dog wash station in the kitchen. Our boys don't like baths. In fact, when we ask if they want a bath they walk away. Once we get the kitchen all pulled back together I believe it will all fall into place. At this moment in our story the sink was a little larger than we pictured but we were still happy with it.
What comes next? What crazy thing will we add to the project? Stay tuned!
Be well, y'all.
