Summer Summer Time

Writer's picture: AllisonAllison

By summer 2020 Miss Ava was only having to come for overnight stays every few weeks to take a Methotrexate infusion. She would often get released later in the evening and come to our house to spend the night before her family driving home the next day. They live just across the Tennessee/Kentucky line and it's almost a two hour drive. So it's off to G-Daddy and Giga's! Our daughter often asked if we really minded coming to get them late in the night (like, 10:00PM). NO! Absolutely not. We didn't want them to have to spend one more minute in the hospital than they absolutely had to!

One such times she cuddled on the couch with me and watched some of the original Full House. That was a fun evening.

Another time we made crayon art together. SO FUN!

Once she came by after clinic while I was on duty. She looked outside at our crepe myrtle's and said she liked those flowers. They were 10 feet in the air. My husband got out the ladder and the hack saw and this sweet baby took those flowers home.

Ava also has a little brother named Axel. This meant we would get to see him as well most visits. We cherish all of them.

Her illness has been hard on her and our family. It hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows. But these moments are the ones we hold on to. Be well, y'all.
