We aren't just working in the kitchen

Yep, we are slowly working on the whole house. While the kitchen is not complete we are also working on other areas. It started with some walkways/doors between the studio and the mudroom/laundry room. When my husband built the studio he raised the floor up to the height of the rest of the house so we could walk straight into it. It had originally been a garage the previous owners built in. Before he raised the floor we had the standard two step down entrance to the "bonus" area.

Also when he built the studio we took the fireplace out and made that the entrance to the studio. For the studio/laundry/mudroom renovation we decided to close up the entrance where the fireplace had been and reopen the original doorway into the bonus area. The red circle was where the fireplace entrance was. The blue circle is where the original doorway into the bonus area was and is today.

Rico says all this jumble in his house is exhausting

As you can see now we have an open doorway where the original was and have drywall in the fireplace entrance to the right but haven't mudded it in yet. We will get there... Eventually. There is only one thing my husband hates worse than working on cars and that is doing drywall. He knows how, he just doesn't like it. I tend to be pretty accident prone and clumsy. I do not do drywall in our house. <shrugs>

In closing up the fireplace entrance between the studio and the living room we were able to move our couch back against the wall. This really opened up our living room, which we like a lot.

Those were not the only doorways we altered. The photo above is taken from my desk area in the studio. The room beyond those open doorways is our laundry/mudroom. The washer/dryer are to the left. Previously storage and a jumbled mess were the rest of the room. The red circles are where the two entrances to each end of the laundry/mudroom were. The blue circle is where the single entrance to the laundry/mud/studio room is now.

Before we started the work in the laundry/mudroom the pic above was your view from the left hand entrance into that room. The washer/dryer faced the left door and the back windows looked out onto our rear driveway. It is a concrete floor but always was serviceable for what the room was.
