Fertilizer? Yup. Fertilizer. You see, it's a funny story...
When our youngest son was, well, younger, he began asking his daddy questions about how things worked. He is a very intelligent boy, always has been. He has this desire to figure out how things work. His mind goes fast, all the time, processing, thinking, figuring. As he grew a little older he began to ask biological questions. One day as we were riding in the truck he pipes up and asks my husband about how babies start. I kept my mouth shut. This was daddy's department today.
My husband began trying to explain things in terms our youngest son was familiar with. He began telling him, "Well, you know how flowers grow right? The bees bring the pollen, or fertilizer, from flower to flower so they can grow and make pretty flowers?"
Slight nod from the backseat. I could already see the smoke coming out of his ears from trying to figure this out and where his dad was going. His wheels were turning.

"Ok, so the bee has the fertilizer. The flower has the egg that needs the fertilizer. The bee has to get the fertilizer to the flower to start a baby," my husband continued. More smoke from our youngest son's ears. More wheels turning. More serious facial expressions and deep thought.
"So the fertilizer has to transfer from the bee to the flower. The daddy has the fertilizer. The mommy has the egg that needs it," he continued. Serious processing going on in our backseat, like, serious. Maybe a nose bleed coming up.
There was sudden horror from the back seat. "STOP! STOP! STOP!" our youngest son yells. He paused and then exclaimed, "STOP! I don't even want to KNOW how the fertilizer gets into the girl!" his face... Y'all... His face was priceless. "I don't want to hear ANYMORE!"
And that is how "I don't even want to know how the fertilizer gets in the girl" has become one of our family's most hilarious one liners.
