Some Greatest Hits

Music may immediately come to mind, but that's not the greatest hits I am talking about today. You see, when my husband went out of work and he and Jax began going to the dog park almost every day, it was the beginning of a beautiful thing. My husband quickly became known at the park for being able to help others understand dog behavior and being able to understand dogs and their moods. I took to calling him the Dog Whisperer.

When one of our very close dog friends graduated high school my husband decided to paint their dog for them as a gift. It would be his first pet portrait and the reference was a beautiful picture of Orion in the snow. When he gave it to them, they cried. They were so touched and loved it so much. And, frankly, I can see why.

Was it his best? Probably not. What it was was the start of a new passion and purpose for my husband. I have shared about his health struggles and the changes they brought to our family. To completely change careers and directions in your late forties is no mean feat. To survive, much less thrive, with a chronic illness takes more than I ever imagined it could. But he has.

And so, today, I want to brag on my husband and present to you some of his pet portrait "greatest hits". Please indulge me.

Sweet Aggie... A precious pup with adorable spots on canvas

Merlin... Sweet little kitty on a metal panel

Happy dog Ernie... A personal favorite on metal panel

A pretty kitty in a basket on canvas... How mischievous and fun!

Elle... When I showed this off at work everyone thought it was a photograph.

A pride of lions, also on metal panel. So. Much. Fur.

He doesn't just paint fur. He also paints feathers. And super realistically too. Realism isn't a style he chooses to use a lot, but it is a great skill and, like all skills, it should be practiced.

And last, but certainly not least, this striking feline on canvas. I love this one, I want to reach out and pet her.

Thank you for indulging my desire to brag on my husband and his work! He also has a teaching channel on YouTube if you want to learn about art and color and airbrushing. I will post all those links below. Don't ever think it's too late to try something new.

Be well, y'all.
